MDS 3.0
Since early in the 1990s, nursing home staff members have been required to complete a minimum data set (MDS) at intervals set by the federal regulations as part of the assessment of all residents living in a nursing home that accepts Medicare and/or Medicaid funding. This assessment, initially and primarily designed to enhance the quality of care in the nursing home, is also used for determining Medicare payments, Medicaid payments in some states and publically reported quality information, among other things.
On October 2010, we will begin using a new version of the assessment: the MDS 3.0. This assessment tool incorporates several new standardized, clinically-proven assessments, many of which are based on the resident's voice and, in some cases, the voice of their loved one. Interviewing the resident is a major component of this new assessment. We have included some of the questions a Patient would be asked in this interview for your review and invite you to contact Sally Rush MDS Data Collection, Lisa Hubbard RFS or Lisa Volk Administrator.
Resident Mood Interview
Say to resident "Over the last 2 weeks, have you been bothered by any of the following problems?"
Little interest or pleasure in doing things
Feeling down, depressed, or hopeless
Trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much
Feeling tired or having little energy
Poor appetite or overeating
Feeling bad about yourself-or that you are a failure or have let yourself or your family down
Trouble concentrating on things, such as reading the newspaper or watching television
Moving or speaking so slowly that other people could have noticed. Or the opposite- being so fidgety or restless that you have been moving around a lot more than usual
Thought that you would be better off dead, or of hurting yourself in some way
